Dear all,

I am writing this entry regarding to MDGs and achieving them. I, as a university student, specificly faculty of medicine student, have really thought about them. And I would like to share my some opinions with you and then mention about a project that I am planning to do.

I am from Turkey and couple a months before at the 5th World Youth Congress, I was a Turkish delegate. As we all know, the main aim of World Youth Congress is to make young people be and feel more active in devolopment and achieving MDGs. During the last congress of WYC, I observed other young people, especially the heath field students. Because, I had already participated to lots of EU projects, seminars and meetings before the congress, I felt I really have to create something concrete during it. I talked with responsible people about organizing a meeting for specificly health field students and discuss with them about MDGs. Because Action Projects started, and people went to other cities, we couldnt manage it though.

As we all know, the 4th and 5th goal of MDGs, is direcly related to health. Actually, all the things in it, are about the health somehow. Health is the first thing in our life. For example, if you are unhealty, there is no point to struggle about giving the same rights to diffrent genders. With this context, we as some medicine faculty students would like to organize a meeting or a small congress or so which is for youngs who study at medicine faculty, nurse faculty, faculty of public health or so. In Bursa, Uludağ University, I manage a group which is mostly consisted by medicine faculty students. We have had lots of meeting with them about this topic and we tried to estimate how can we do it. According to the result we have reached now, in such a congress or meeting like that, we will have a chance to discuss about the topics listed above.

A) How can we manage to make health field students more active and innovative about social topics and MDGs?
B) Health politics of governments from students’ point of views;
1. Are they accurate?
2. What can we suggest to add or change about them to the governments and why?
3. Do they fit with the MDGs and how can we adapt them to MDGs?
C) Education if health faculties:
1. Is the education really informing students about MDGs?
2. Which lessons can be added to the schedule to increase the knowledge of students about related topics and MDGs?
D) In addition to adding and adapting some school lessons, what we can do else in social life to achive the MDGs?


Why the health field students?

Because as I already said above, health is one of the most important and related topics which are to considered to achive MDGs. And also, because they have to study and work hard during the whole part of their life and they generally feel under pressure of heavy theoratical informations, they are getting unsocial by the time. However, they are the ones who have to interest in not only their lessons but social topics because of importancy of health.
Besides, they are the potencial doctors, nurses, health aid workers and proffesors or so. If we can make them to think about the topics listed above, it will be much more diffrent in the future. We as medicine faculty students strongly believe that.

How long will this project and meeting programme long?
Just like the most of EU project and other official meeting programmes we can arrange couple of meetings. All of them will have a specific topic, one of the ones beside. For instance, couple of months after a meeting named “Revising the Education in Faculties”, there may be another one named “Revising the Health Politics of Governments”. Totally, it may long 1.5-2 years.

What kind of things are we suggesting to do?
• Debatings
• Discussions
• Faculty Visitings-Excursions
• Panels
• Seminars
• Round Table Workings

Note:All the things we are suggesting, are just a draft. We had some meetings and noted these things. Absolutaly they are changable and revisable. We are waiting for comments to context.

Shortly, we are planning to hold this kinda project. I ve wanted to share our point of view and draft project. Now I m waiting for comments, supports and so. For health organizations, for active youngsters and for everybody; you are welcome to support us and be added to our project to construct it together.
